Ferrara Palio – Ferrara
May 25th, 2024. Historical reenactment and races among the 8 districts of Ferrara.
On Saturday May 25th, 2024 it takes place the Palio in Ferrara in memory of the Palio of 1471 when the Marquess Borso d’Este received the investiture as first Duke of Ferrara by Pope Paul II.
On the day of the Ferrara Palio, the city dresses up with the colors of the districts that will compete for the Palio.
The race is also an opportunity to celebrate and remember the greatness of Ferrara during the Renaissance period, when the city shone among the capitals, in Italy and in Europe.
8 districts of the city participate in the Palio: the four districts within the city walls and four villages outside: San Benedetto, Santa Maria in Vado, San Paolo, San Giacomo, San Giorgio, San Giovanni and San Luca.
The challenges of the Palio are four: the girls’ race, the boys’ race, the donkeys’ race and the horses’ race.
In program also flag wavers’ and musicians’ competitions who compete in seven specialties: traditional single, traditional double, small team, large team, musicians, choreography and furthermore there is an award assigned called the “combined” (sum of the best scores obtained).
