Villa Barbaro in Maser (Treviso)
A Unesco World Heritage Palladian Villa in the countryside
Villa Barbaro in Maser is a villa designed by Andrea Palladio (1508-1580) and, like other Palladian villas in the Veneto region, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.
For the interior decoration, the two patrons – brothers Daniele and Marcantonio Barbaro, who had a large agricultural estate here and wanted a representative villa – called upon painter Paolo Veronese and sculptor Alessandro Vittoria.
The villa remains at the center of a 230-hectare estate and it is possible to visit the main floor with Veronese’s frescoes and see a view of the Nymphaeum designed by Palladio through a large window.
30 hectares are dedicated to vineyards for producing local wines – Asolo Prosecco, Merlot, Cabernet, Chardonnay, Prosecco, Manzoni Bianco, and Verduzzo – which can be purchased at the villa’s wine shop.
The garden in front of the villa is open for free visits. The orchard, the herb garden, and a flower meadow, reminiscent of the old custom of supplying the house with cut flowers will be soon restored
The villa also includes the Palladian Temple, the Stables, and a Carriage Collection (not always open, please inquire to confirm availability).
